Southern Andalucía offers the hiker an extraordinary diversity of landscape on a strip of land about 350km in length and a maximum of 80km wide. Between the ancient port of Cadíz and the Costa de la Luz lined with shifting sand dunes and pine forests in the west, and the volcanic cliffs of Cabo de Gata in the east, you will find the 3000ers covered in snow almost all year round and a sub-tropical coastline. Luxuriant mediterranean forests are just as likely to be found here as are scorched semi-deserts and arid steppes.
You can walk along bridle paths and old paths linking the villages, follow in the footsteps of charcoal burners, snow gatherers, miners, smugglers and bandoleros past white mountain villages and isolated cortijos. Fairytale forests, hidden valleys and gorges, airy crests, karst mountain ridges and remote lakes in limestone bowls promise some varied days. And then there are the coasts with their picturesque cliffs, fishing villages and idyllic natural beaches. Only a stone's throw away from the densely populated and over-developed sunny Spanish coastal resorts, you will discover fascinating and unspoiled landscapes.
From straightforward cliff or beach walks and easy hikes between villages to demanding high mountain ascents, Bernd Plikat has selected 50 walks from various perspectives in the most beautiful areas of south Andalucía for this Rother walking guide. Over uw zending: Capitoolgids Andalusië en wandelingen niets dan lof. De Capitoolgids is een uitstekende leidraad door Andalusië, vooral de informatie over Sevilla en Cadiz was prima. W.b. de wandelgids: wij hadden een hotel even ten zuiden van Cadiz en hebben de wandeling vanaf Barbate gemaakt: schitterend. Helaas was de afstand naar de andere wandelingen te ver. Dus we hopen andere bezoekers van Andalusië hiermee een plezier te doen. Voor nieuwe reisdoelen weten we de Zwerver beslist te vinden.
